When Jesus says, "I have not come to call the righteous to repentance, but sinners," and knowing that none is righteous but God, what is Jesus saying to the scribes and the Pharisees?
The Answer
The only repentance that results in righteousness is believing in Jesus Christ. Jesus was giving the scribes and the Pharisees a holy little wake-up call about their self-righteousness and their belief that they didn't need Him or the salvation only He provides. Ouch - and amen - all at the same time!
