Fred D. Smith
March 13, 1926 - September 13, 2020

Fred D. Smith, 94, of Springfield, Ohio passed away September 13, 2020. He was born March 13, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of David and Louise (Pinkston) Smith. Mr. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Captain. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an Aerospace Engineer after many years of dedicated service. He was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Deacon Board, Male Chorus, St, John Food Pantry, Sunday School, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, Christian Men's Fellowship, Photography Ministry and Small Group Ministry.
His memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Veatrice (Glover) Smith; daughters, Donna M. (William II) Burch and Andrea M. (Chauncey) Wallace; son, Kevin C. (Lois) Smith, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; sisters Mary H. Wrenn, Patty McManus and Juanita Black; brother, David (Jerre) Smith and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Victor Smith; sister, Yvonne Barksdake and a brother, Edmond Smith.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 1 p.m. in St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be Monday, September 28, 2020 in Dayton National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with military honors.
